Welcome! This is the website I will be using to show my audience not what the Ku Klux Klan SAY they are doing, but what is actually going on.

The History of the Klan

The name "Ku Klux" is a twist on the Greek word "Kuklos" which means circle, or ring. The name Ku Klux Klan literally means Circle of Brothers, or Brotherhood. They expressed the belief of white supremacy and anti-immigration through acts of, sometimes extreme, terrorism. Although the terrorism does not happen anymore the group is still classed as a hate group. The Klan was founded in 1865, in Tennessee by veterans of the Confederate Army, originally as a terrorist group pulling pranks on citizens. The idea was them adopted, and the Klansmen formed the idea of white supremacy. They spread their message in the 19th century through the threats of violence and murder of not only blacks, but also white Republicans the creators of the law against slaves. In the late 19th century, the federal government passed the Force Acts, a law increasing the protection of US citizens, used to persecute The KKK. After this, the first Klan died down a lot. In 1915, a second Klan was formed in Georgia, and due to the social tensions in the U.S quickly rose to popularity and prosper. They preached "100% Americanism" and sought to purify politics with stricter laws on prohibition. At it's peak in the 1920's the Klan had about 4-5 million men. By 1930, that number had dropped to about 30,000 due to criminal activity by leaders of the Klan. Now the Klan is called The Knights Party, and are not using violence to spread their message, rather protest and hate.
